Good evening all,
I'm getting tired of blogger not working but tonight I figured I'd see if they had fixed the problem. Before I tried to post I changed to Yahoo! instead of Google.
I can now upload my old way.
I'm not sure if blogger corrected the problem or it just works with Yahoo!
Here is a picture I took a couple of weeks ago of my Easy Street Mystery Quilt from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville. I had one set of the blocks, the corner triangles and setting triangles finished and was working on the second set of blocks when I took this picture. I now have all the blocks finished and ready to start sewing all the blocks together. I planned on working on that tonight but haven't gotten in the mood to lay it all out.
In cross stitch, I finished Q is for Quilter right after the first of the year. I had already stitched R is for Rabbit so now I'm working on S is for Sewing.
The last 2 Saturdays Steve and I spent the day at antique shops and flea markets. I didn't buy much but we did see several nice vintage quilts and a few vintage sewing machines. I did purchase this one.
Her name is Clara.
$29.00 at an antique mall plus 25% off. It is a Singer that uses the long bobbins so I knew it was really old. I don't have a machine that uses the long bobbins so I'm very excited to have it. It was really clean and after getting it home I cleaned it a little more and oiled it. Figured out how to thread it. At first when I tried to sew, I had a very nice birds nest on the back. But after adjusting the tension I have it working perfect. I think someone must have turned the tension knob about 20 times. It was way off. Here's a picture of a long bobbin with red thread in the bobbin winder.
It also came with several long bobbins and an extra shuttle.
After getting it up and running I went on the Singer website to look up the serial number. It turns out, it was manufactured in 1894. 118 years old and sewing like a brand new one. I've been thinking since I own it now, who was the original owner? What was she like? Where did she live? How many owners has this machine had?Where has it been and the stories it could tell.
She now joins Eleanor. Mom's American Home manufactured Jan. 22 1962.
I need to take pictures of my other machines and post them. Maybe I'll do that next time.
I think this bring me to 10 machines. Plus my serger and long arm.
Until next time,
Deana
